Description

SANParks is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Tourism Monitors Programme as Tourism Monitors. This programme plays a crucial role in ensuring the sustainable management of our national parks while enhancing the visitor experience. Tourism Monitors will be stationed at various national parks across South Africa, where they will engage with visitors, provide information, and monitor activities to promote conservation and responsible tourism practices.

Responsibilities
  • Visitor Engagement: Interact with park visitors in a friendly and informative manner, providing guidance, information, and assistance as needed.
  • Education and Interpretation: Educate visitors about the importance of conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable tourism practices through interpretive talks, guided walks, and educational materials.
  • Monitoring and Enforcement: Monitor visitor activities to ensure compliance with park regulations and guidelines. Address any violations or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Assist in the protection and preservation of the park's natural and cultural resources by reporting any incidents, hazards, or environmental concerns.
  • Data Collection: Collect data on visitor demographics, preferences, and feedback to inform park management decisions and improve the visitor experience.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with park management, rangers, and other staff members to coordinate activities, support conservation initiatives, and promote a cohesive visitor experience.
  • Safety and Security: Maintain a safe and secure environment for visitors and wildlife by adhering to safety protocols, conducting regular patrols, and responding to emergencies as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Passion for nature, conservation, and environmental sustainability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Previous experience in tourism, hospitality, or customer service is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and cultural heritage is desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the national parks.
